Do not miss this! :)

Toy Story 3

I wanted to go to this movie on 25th June when this was released here. Had told Aaarti who also wanted to go. Well, did not get tickets. We finally went today ๐Ÿ™‚ Aaarti, lil A and I prompt at the theatre before the movie started so that we did not miss the Pixar short.

What can I say? I have not enjoyed a movie like I did this evening! All 3 of us were laughing, commenting. In fact was telling Aaarti wondering if I was too loud. Have not laughed out aloud like that in a long long time! The movie is super cute! For a fan of animated movies, especially the Pixar ones, I knew this would not disappoint me. It did not! It was amazing!! Starting from the short – Day & Night.

The short was also thought provoking. How we are afraid of something new, unknown, fear of the different and to how we must look at things, take that plunge – Trying that now along with trying to live life one day at a time ๐Ÿ™‚

The actual movie if I start using adjectives it would all be superlative. What fun it was! Weird thing was the show…the theatre just stopped the movie and gave a break! Got so irritated about that break! Why in whatsoever’s name did we need a break in that movie!?!? Otherwise, this was such a treat for all 3 of us. Each doll has made an impact – apart from the old characters – the villainous Lots-o, big baby, chunk, chatter telephone, peas in a pod, dolly, bookworm, stretch…the list goes on. I am now sure that A would not let me donate/trash his toys! :). He has watched the first 2 parts of this movie and knows every character. He did bully me into getting him Buzz Lightyear in the last visit to the toy shop. He also has a long list of toys to be added (Wonder where I am going spoiling my son like this… or may be I am spoiling myself collecting all this in his name ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

Watch this. Would give the highest rating (don’t care if I am biased to Pixar animations – this movie is worth it. It lives up to expectations & more) I did not talk too much about the story as I do not want this to be the spoiler type posts ๐Ÿ™‚

I guess the smileys on this one shows that I still have a grin on my face thinking of the wonderful evening!

We won!!!

Rather the team A was routing for won ๐Ÿ˜€ It was an amazing evening. Last minute plans, A, Aaarti & I ended up having tickets to the Chennai Super Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals match in DLF IPL T20.

This is the first ever cricket match I watched in the stadium. I used to vacillate between wanting to watch it live there and on TV. Never got the opportunity to do the former; so ended up saying…hey! ย it would be way better to watch it on TV with all the angles etc.., Lets just say that it was the case of sour grapes!

The experience watching the match live in the stadium was amazing!! The adrenalin rush. It was so clear who the audience was supporting. We are from Chennai ๐Ÿ˜€ Though I must say, there was polite applause for achievements by the other team (ok…may be few RR supporters were there! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

We won!!! though there was a point where it was possible for Rajasthan Royals to make it. We were wondering what is wrong with Chennai super kings who could not defend the highest total made in DLF IPL effectively. As in taking it to the last over!!

Having said all this, I must add, the “security” was not that effective. We were not to take cameras, water bottles, outside supporting merchandise….but saw all of it all over the place. I had upset A by not getting flags! Pacified him by begging for one from a neighbour!

Next the tickets! Must have been first…well… anyways… Paid double the cost. Then a bloke comes and says hey let me in, you can take A in without a ticket. Thinking he would pay up…he gets inside, pays less than half of the actual ticket price!!! I think he must have seen me coming right from when I started from home!!!!! The rest room facilities – stinker worth not mentioning (I guess public sanitation in India would be a separate post – rather…let’s just leave it there!)

A did enjoy himself. His star Dhoni (who by the way scored a duck) won according to him! Had to teach him that CSK won not Dhoni!! On mentioning my offspring, I must say that it was coincidence that whenever he asked us to get him something and either Aaarti or I stepped out, RR lost a wicket. It was noticed so much, that the lady in front of us actually turned around and asked him to demand for something from us to make us leave at the fag end of the game!!! LOL!!

This is one memory I will cherish. Have quite a list I have to check off on. As of now, one down – Watch cricket match live sitting in the stadium ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope to plan going to the stadium next time around, get good seats with no hassles and of course not getting ripped off and re-ripped off!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

PS: I texted Vishesh asking for scores for the Barclays EPL as Man U were playing Chelsea and Arsenal against the Wolves. He did not respond ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Just got home and checked the scores. Wanted ManU- Chelsea draw! Chelsea won!! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Dancing in the rain :)

The day started off really well, just the kind of weather I like :). I got to know that I would be having a job for the next 9 months. That was great news!! I went over to spend some time with colleagues prepping for a halloween party. By the time we were done, it started to pour.

I love the rains!! I started to put my hands out and catch the downpour, ended up just going out and twirling around, getting wet. I did not want to ride home in the rain and this was the way I spent the time waiting for it to subside. People around me must have thought “Crazy woman!!!” but I loved every minute of it. Lightning, thunder and a heavy downpour. Enjoyed it.

The downpour came down to a drizzle. It was getting late, A was waiting at home!! (yeah I remembered I had a kid to go home to ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I drive down, the roads are flooded. Traffic everywhere!!! To top it all, my bike stalled every other minute. Was wondering each time whether it would just die. My bike’s headlights did not function. Icing on the cake, my fuel gauge was edging towards “empty”. I rode on. The thrill of what might happen felt nice.

I know I have cribbed many a times of wanting to know what is in store. How is this different? Well, for starters, I knew what I had to do. It is not like life off late where I did not know what is in store, had (have) no plans and even if I did have plans they did not work!!

Reached home and hugged A (who asked me to change cos I had wet clothes on!! Wonder who the parent is!!!!! :D). Felt like I loved life all of a sudden. Was it knowing I would be employed for the next few months? Was it just spending the evening and feeling free!!!??? Whatever it is, it felt good. It feels good to share this here! ๐Ÿ™‚

To more such days!!

Am alive!!

Hopefully well I must add ๐Ÿ™‚ So is A. What got me out of my slumber?! Just missed writing here besides, I thought of penning down a recent experience of mine which of course involved A & a dear friend Aaarti.

Flash back ๐Ÿ˜€ Tuesday last we received a circular from the school that Aakash studies in asking for students between UKG and 3rd to register to be dressed as Lord Krishna for a programme by Aruna Sairam on Vijay TV (Krishna Jayanthi special) Krishna Jayanthi for non- Indian readers is the Hindu celebration of Lord Krishna’s birthday. The following Wednesday was another Hindu holiday. Since we thought the registrations would have filled up for the first 100, we did not bother to call the school up to register though A was very keen to be lil Krishna. Friday we thought why not just give a shot – called and were surprised that A was just Krishna #81!!!!!

Saturday: Aaarti, A & I went shopping to get the costume ready. There I get a brainwave; decide not to hire the costume but put things together and dress the guy up. While shopping, we kept in mind that whatever we buy, I must be able to use later and it should not end up to be a one time thing. Had fun blowing money ๐Ÿ˜€ Got the costume ready with the help of my mum too. A was pretty co-operative with every little thing we tried on him!

Sunday: Recording day!! We were asked to be at the auditorium at 2pm. We had been asked to get snacks for the kids and get them dressed up completely there. I took A there sharp at 2. The air-conditioner in the auditorium was not switched on. It was a typical hot day in Chennai. So, one can imagine how it would have been inside the auditorium!!! Took A out to the car, got him dressed there. Thank God that the auditorium was closer to the beach (sea breeze had set in, it was getting a wee bit cooler ๐Ÿ™‚ ) Aaarti joined me to help me get him dressed. We got in to the auditorium, in a while they switched on the A/C. I pitied every kid there, all made up, in uncomfortable clothes and sweating. Though they really did not seem to mind! We even found a couple of kids playing “stone, paper, scissors” in front of us ๐Ÿ˜€ That bit was a delight – watching all the kids around (Kids playing, crying, wanting to go pee after getting completely dressed up!!!, wanting to eat after putting on their make up.. ). Then it was utter chaos. No one really knew what was the plan of action. The sound checks kept going on. Suddenly there was an announcement to leave the kids in the middle rows. When I say announcement it was not on the PA system, it was just a random person who came and told us parents. So, there were some who were completely oblivious to the announcement. With lots of confusion, finally things settled down. The artist comes in with her band, does sound checks. Kids there totally restless. Aruna Sairam sang well, tried to get the kids involved telling them they were the show’s stars, making them dance & sing. The show had 4 songs sung by her & 2 with her and a few kids who had been trained. We also had constant announcements not to take photographs or video recordings. Of course, we all would take pictures of our Krishnas (Aaarti & I did before the programme started and the announcements were made – so I guess we are fine ๐Ÿ™‚ )

I found the whole thing highly disorganised. I would also blame the parents & other relatives of the kids around too. They kept approaching the kids now and then crowding around the area where they were seated which triggered multiple announcements from the “organisers” requesting the parents to not do so. Though I also understand that the kids would have been hungry/uncomfortable and needed to confer with their mums or dads. I suppose Vijay TV officials should have realised this and made this a bit more of a pleasant experience for all. The concept of the programme was good, hence the planning should have involved a bit more of consideration that it involves small children. Parents too must have been a wee bit more co-operative! Aaarti and I were joking saying we were such “bad” adults when it came to looking after A. I had just left him where he had to sit, told him I was going to be around. That was that. I did not bother to go enquire after etc…, So, may be I was a bad parent after all. ๐Ÿ™‚ I did get irritated at one point when the MC kept announcing the kids to be quiet, parents not to approach the kids etc., I went up and told her to realise how things are. She listened and told me…that she was just doing this as a hobby but will take the suggestions in a good manner!!! There was no one who we could actually approach and ask questions or talk to!! Recording was over and done with. The kids received a packet with mysurpa box from Krishna Sweets (a brand here), a few packs of biscuits/cookies. Announcements were made saying the programme will be relayed on 13 August but the time was not given. I must say that whether every kid’s face is relayed or not, each one of them was cute (some parents had even painted the kids blue or blue/black!! torture I say especially when I was so apprehensive of putting on even a light make up on A!!! ). The kids were definitely the stars ๐Ÿ˜€

I must really grant it to Vijay TV here. They must have gotten a really good TRP rating that day. I should say I was partly a contributing member. Word of mouth advertisement. Please see A on TV (he might come for a few seconds – one among 100s of kids! ๐Ÿ™‚ ) Aaah the vanity of motherhood!! The network ran teasers – my parents & of course I was very pleased to see a close up of A in the teaser!! ๐Ÿ˜€ All riled up to watch the show on 13th, I came back from work early. Switch on the television to find that the cablewala had cut power. All we could see were black and white dots with that crazy noise!! Calls flew past asking if anyone could record the programme for us. Alas, I must say I did not see the programme. Aaarti said that A did appear for a few seconds which made me write “A got his 2 secs out of his 15 minutes of fame!” as my status message.

I must say here that A, Aaarti, my parents & I had fun dressing A up as lil Krishna. I must also add that A milked every bit of appreciation from one and all (attention seeker that he is becoming!!! I must get wary of that ๐Ÿ™‚ ) I am still trying to find out if that programme is available on YouTube or anywhere else. I did read somewhere that the dressed up Krishnas were not given that much of a coverage on the programme.

Would I do something like this again!? Honest answer, I don’t know. I would think twice before registering him for such TV shows though. May be I am not being fair to the network, but I really feel they should have anticipated things, made better arrangements especially since the show involved so many kids.

Anyways after the “jetlag” of my long slumber, I guess am back with this post of a happening almost a week back ๐Ÿ™‚ . I don’t know though if I will post as regularly but will definitely try. Thanks to some of you who did enquire after me. That really made me feel good, felt like -hey even I am missed!!!

PS: Please do let me know if any of you have a recording of the show or can find out a link for me to just at least watch! Please!! Pretty please…with cherries on top!! ๐Ÿ˜€ If anyone one wants to see A in his costume (and already has not ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) please do mail me, will try mail you a pic ๐Ÿ˜€ As I said earlier, vanity of motherhood!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜‰

From Malaysia with love :)

Or must I say From Thailand with love?! ๐Ÿ™‚

A couple of days back, I came home to find mail with my name on it! I knew that Sulz would be sending this over, yet when you see the actual package, it just brings a smile to your face, a flutter in your heart. Physical mail has become so much of a rarity off late. Even the bills are e-bills!!

So, Sulz – here goes!! A big big thank you!!! I am so glad that I did sign up for your project – A piece of Thailand.

I did feel guilty about making her spend on postage and the piece of Thailand. She assured me that it is alright! I hope it still is ๐Ÿ™‚

First thing that struck me, what a beautiful handwriting!! Mum also said the same. A was too wired up to know what was inside the envelope with birds and my name on it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Opened it up to find a beautiful picture post card and a magnet. Will sure aim for the moon ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks again Sulz!! You made our day. Once again – beautiful handwriting. The magnet now is added on to A’s collection which currently is one Tom & Jerry, one Superman sign. He claims it as his own!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Stereotyping &

This has been in my drafts for a really long time. ย I was just waiting for my aunt to send me the pictures to post along with this.

I never liked stereotyping but as I am experiencing some things off late, I now understand the reasoning behind it. ย Though some border around ridiculous. There was this one time when I was talking to some one in the US ( back in those days ๐Ÿ™‚ ). I distinctly remember this conversation because it made me wonder. Is this how people still think of India? This lady I was talking to had this weird impression that elephants roamed around on the streets of India. The typical elephants, snake charmers image. It also made me wonder how ignorant she was. Of course, I was polite enough to just tell her that things were not so …blah blah…ย Yet in the back of my mind I kept thinking that this was weird!ย

Anyways, on that note, I wanted to say that after close to 2 years and immense effort, I finally showed an elephant to A! ๐Ÿ™‚ On my trip to Tirunelveli late last year, we went to the Nellaiappar temple. There I was told not to take any pictures. Then how do I now have pics to post? Well, money talks. One could sit on the elephant and go on a ride in the corridor for a price. The mahout said, give me a little more money and you can take pictures too. So, there you go! ๐Ÿ˜€ A glimpse of the elephant in the temple.ย

ย ย

By the way, the one other time A might have seen an elephant would have been at the Bronx zoo. Though I have a feeling he took a nap just around the time we were near the elephants.ย

So much for being in India the land of elephants supposedly roaming on the streets!!! On a parting note, I am yet to see a snake charmer in all these years I have lived here!!! Hmm….next post? May be I should make a field trip to go in search for one now that A’s school is on summer break till mid June! ๐Ÿ˜‰

ย

PS: I am sorry that I have not been very active on the blogosphere due to various circumstances. I know that that is just an excuse…pardon me. Hope to get back to commenting and replying to comments – get a semblance of normalcy in my life too that way! ๐Ÿ™‚

Smile please – thank you!

Vishesh has tagged me yet again!!!!! The smiley man wants us to spread smiles here through this tag.

The objective -to make people smile.

Well, it is a nice objective don’t you say?

An onion can make people cry, but there has never been a vegetable invented to make them laugh – Will Rogers

Don’t know about vegetables, but I will try my best to meet the objective of the tag! What makes me smile? I am way too easy to please! Smile at me, I smile right back ๐Ÿ™‚ Comic books like Asterix & Obelix, Tintin, Suppandi, Calvin & Hobbes, Dennis the Menace – name it; I love them. Comedies be they on TV or movies – I enjoy them. Who does not like to break into a smile or laugh?

So, now how do I get you all to smile? Hmm….

This piece of audio

(WP does not allow me to upload the MP3 file directly here. So sorry for the inconvenience ๐Ÿ˜ฆ )

has never failed to bring a smile on my face. I think it would bring a smile on anyone’s face. It is the sound of innocent laughter – my son when he was around 2 (supposedly happier times!) laughing away watching his jack in the box go pop!
I love the book series (and of course the TV series) of Yes Minister & Yes Prime Minister. They have a timeless charm. I guess those instances would fit to a tee any time in any political scenario ๐Ÿ™‚ So, here is a clip I have enjoyed many a times.

A sport I like to watch – cricket. I have been told by some that it is a boring game. I have often told them, that there are moments that happen on the field that are wonderful to watch. Here is one of them.

Leaving the rest of the picks for others to choose from (and making the post a wee bit shorter ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

I hope I brought a tiny peep of a smile at least on my readers’ face.

Vishesh had asked me to tag the Chennai bloggers & Nikhil.

I also tag Oorja, Muse & Shy ๐Ÿ™‚

Climbing to the top of the charts!

My band Lรฉtra has released it’s latest album More of them than us. It is is fast climbing to the top of the charts!

Yeah right! In my dreams!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Sulz has tagged me hereย Actually she has double tagged me – on the blog and facebook!ย

Rules of the meme:

  • Go to Wikipedia. Hit โ€œrandomโ€ or clickย http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band. If itโ€™s already the name of a band, you can hit random again.ย
  • ย Go to โ€œrandom quotationsโ€ or clickย http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3.The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
  • ย Go to Flickr and click on โ€œexplore the last seven daysโ€ย or clickย http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days. Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
  • ย Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.
  • ย Post it to your blog with this text and tag the blog buddies you want to join in.

Weird or just my luck; my first two random hits gave me names of music bands! For the curious out there – They were “Charged GBH” and “Headhunter”. Third try got me : Lรฉtra which is a village & commune of the Rhรดne department of central-eastern France.

I like the French bit of the name…sounds cool and easy to pronounce! ๐Ÿ˜€

The quotation I got was by Herb Caen –

There are more of them than us

The album name is so random! It can mean anything. I like it ๐Ÿ™‚

The image I got is what I used for my album art. Ok…not just like that…I did some exposure settings changes to get this look ๐Ÿ™‚ Btw, the first image I got was copyrighted and the owner had asked people to mail him for his approval to use the picture anywhere; so had to try again to get this image. Guess I never get anything right the first time ๐Ÿ™‚

As to tagging, I suppose it is open to anyone who has a band or wants to have one or like me has one in one’s dreams ๐Ÿ™‚ Please just let me know you have taken this up so I can come and check your band name, album and album art ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh before I forget…in going with the post; Teeni has awarded me with

Well, very apt timing indeed – what with my album climbing to the top and all ๐Ÿ˜‰ ย ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks a lot.ย

She has awarded me with the proximity awardย for jumping in and fitting right in. ย Thanks again!ย
